Overview
Friend Check (“the App”) is a mobile application that reminds you to keep in touch with the people you care about. This Privacy Policy explains what information Friend Check collects, how it is used, and how it is protected. Friend Check is developed and operated by Ippon.
Information We Collect
Account information
To use Friend Check you create an account with your name, an email address and a password, or sign in with Apple or Google. Your password is never stored in plain text – it is stored using a one-way cryptographic hash, so we cannot read or recover your original password. When you sign in with Apple or Google we receive only the identifier, email address and name that you choose to share.
People you add
When you add a person to Friend Check, the App stores the information you choose for them: name, phone numbers, birthday, notes, universe (for example Family, Friends or Work), how often and how you want to keep in touch, and the history of the contacts you log. This information is private to your account and is synchronized between your own devices so you can use the App on more than one phone.
Device contacts
With your permission, Friend Check reads your device’s contacts so you can pick people and keep their phone numbers up to date. Your address book is read on your device only: we do not upload your contacts list. Only the people you explicitly add to Friend Check are stored in your account.
Notifications
Reminders are scheduled locally on your device. We do not use push notification services and do not track whether you open a reminder.
Purchases
Friend Check Premium subscriptions are processed by the App Store or Google Play. We never receive your payment details. Subscription status is managed through RevenueCat, which receives an anonymous app user identifier linked to your account and the details of your purchase.
How We Use Your Information
Your information is used solely to provide the Friend Check service: authenticating your account, storing and synchronizing the people and contact history you create, scheduling your reminders, sending account emails (such as password resets), and unlocking Premium features when you subscribe. We do not use your data for advertising, we do not track you across other apps or websites, and we do not sell or rent your data to third parties.
Third-Party Services
- Apple and Google sign-in – used only if you choose to sign in with them, subject to Apple’s and Google’s privacy policies.
- App Store and Google Play – process subscription payments, subject to Apple’s and Google’s privacy policies.
- RevenueCat – manages subscription status, subject to RevenueCat’s Privacy Policy.
- Google (Gmail) – used to send account emails such as password reset messages.
- WhatsApp, Messages, Phone and FaceTime – when you tap to contact someone, Friend Check opens the app you chose. Your conversations happen in that app and are never seen by Friend Check.
Data Storage and Security
Account data is stored on servers operated by Ippon in the European Union, and a copy is kept on your device so the App works offline. Access to the API requires an authenticated account, all communication is encrypted (HTTPS), and each user’s data is only accessible to that user. We take reasonable technical measures to protect your data, but no method of electronic storage or transmission is 100% secure.
Data Retention and Deletion
We retain your account data for as long as your account is active. You can delete your account and all associated data at any time in the App (Settings → Delete account), or by following the instructions on our Delete Account page.
Your Rights
Under the GDPR you have the right to access, correct, export and delete your personal data, and to object to or restrict its processing. To exercise these rights, contact us using the details below.
Children’s Privacy
Friend Check is not directed at children under 16, and we do not knowingly collect personal data from children.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Changes will be posted on this page.
